There’s a great list of 10 things you can do to green-up your kitchen on Chow.com. Although most of the information is from the Energy Commission which I don’t wholly trust, generally speaking the suggestions are good.
Two suggestions I’d make relating to Christy Harrison’s list is, number one, I certainly agree with keeping a full refrigerator in order to decrease energy usage but what exactly shall we fill it with? Because I’m someone that often finds themselves with nothing but peanut-butter and a couple eggs in my fridge, I personally keep several gallons of water in there to fill up the extra space. When I’m thirsty and my pitcher thing is empty because someone (me) didn’t fill it when they took the last drop out of it, I can reach in and have cold water at my immediate disposal—to be refilled at some later time when the pitcher is done doing its thing.
Second, before going out and buying a dishwasher I’d strongly suggest reading the AskPablo article on TriplePundit where he compares the effects of dishwashing by hand to using an dishwashing automaton. Not keeping the water running by using a basin to do dishes by hand has great savings in comparison to the usage otherwise or by dishwasher.

Great links. I never thought about filling up my fridge with stuff to keep it running more efficiently….that’s a great excuse to keep it full! Does it work the same way with gallons of ice cream in the freezer?
