Let’s see. Zero emission dirt bike by Zero Motorcycles sounds so cool on many levels. cNet wrote up this article about it. My thoughts on it though is that tromping about in the wilderness on a battery operated vehicle somehow doesn’t exactly seem very sustainable. Even though with it’s no emission propulsion it doesn’t pollute as badly (it still has life-cycle implications) it wasn’t exactly intended by the natural environment to have dirt bikes rolling around and running over banana slugs. Not that mountain bikes are really any different, since they’re emission free too.
cNet blurb:
The Zero X has a range of 40 miles on a single charge. The battery can be recharged in two hours. That’s enough for most motocross drivers and street-bike commuters, and the street version will go farther. The average U.S. driver only goes about 25 miles to 30 miles a day, according to several studies.
